Literary Essay: Seventh Grade

Have you ever had a crush on someone that you cant stand not being or impressing them? Victor has a huge crush on Teresa from the start to the finish. As it kind of said in the book “Seventh Grade” By Garry Soto on page 52 “Teresa is going to be my girl this year” as she is his dream girl. This helps my claim because its saying that they are going to be best friends or maybe even more then friends. This explains she is his crush by a lot of reasons.

My second reason to prove that he has a huge crush on he is that he stares at himself every sing day before school to make sure he looks okay for her. And she is his crush and he wants to look okay for her because maybe it will be his special day in scoring Teresa in friendship or maybe more.

And my third reason is that on page 57 he tries to impress her by saying he know French and studied it before. As it saying “As Victor has a long blank as everybody stared” and that shows he is trying to impress he big time as he wanting her to ask for tutoring from him so they can be closer. And those are my three reasons about my claim that Victor has a huge crush on Teresa. Witch backfires on him by embaressing himself in front of the whole class. and that happend because of they things and how he acts when he is by Teresa. 

So have you ever really have done anything to impress someone? Or dont know what to say to your crush? If so you are relatable to Victor in Seventh Grade by Gary Soto. Victor is madly in love.

     "Jump Ship to Freedom"  By James Collier and Christopher Collier's book was by far to me the best pick for the topic book club. Just I wonder why he decided to go on the boat in the first place. I wonder that because he could have easily escaped from captain before getting. And he knew what the boat was for and where he was going. So why not escape because I know what I would do if I was in hes position. I would escape! Even though I knew what it would bring and its communiques. I would have at least wait on the boat until night and escape on the life raft of boat and sail away. Far away.

          I would like to some day visit a historical place that played what it would be like then  in the book. As if it was kind of like the Williamsburg trip I attended in the late April. I would like to some day visit something like that because I am some what interested in it. I would also like to some day do that because it seamed very hard then and would like to see how hard and the atmosphere he is surrounded in wail doing it. also it would like to because in the first couple of pages Daniel Arabus said how hard it is and how tough his masters are in that time and area where he lived. And because he describes the places and things that are happening so clearly. And the struggles he goes through like getting on the ship, stealing back his fathers notes. And the places he goes and see on his rode to freedom. and if I some day visit something like that I can truly understand what he is going through So as you can see with all of my reason of what I would like to do some day I would like to visit a historical place from that time.

5.9.14 The Track Meet And Taco Bell

      This Wednesday I had my fist track meet scene of my broken arm. I was running the 70m, 100m, and 200m dash. I was really excited to get back running with the team. I placed 3rd in the 70m, 4th in the 100m, and 5th in the 200m dash. I was really happy taking in thought that it was my first meet back. at the end of the meet it started to rain really really  hard. I grabbed my stuff and headed in side the school by the pool entrance.  and waited for my dad to pick me up and drive me to Berkshire for my brothers baseball game.Where they were playing in the rain to. they were in about the 6th inning and they ended up losing. after it stopped raining and we went to taco bell for dinner.

Dear Administrator of Birmingham Public Schools, 

Hello. I am a student at Covington and recently we have had a lot of snow days for no reason! And that is something I would like to address. On January 28th all Birmingham Public Schools had a snow day due to inclement weather and was about 6° in Bloomfield Hills around BCS. Then the following day we did not have a snow day as you know.  And It was the same weather and temperature 6° and we had school. 

So I would like you to find a new method to determine a snow day. Such as hearing the buzz on the television and radio, determine a expectable temperature for school, how much snow is allowed, and the wind chill and so on. To determine a snow day so we don't waste them.   

So from now on I would recommend this method for the sake for the Birmingham Public Schools teacher, parents, and kids. I thank you for your time and consideration for the snow days. Hope to see you soon in up coming events at Birmingham Covington School.

Year Round School 

Is it a good idea?

         Year round school is not a good idea because it takes away the students motivation in school to do well and have a summer break to look forward to and there is no sign of test score improvement so far so what's the point. In fact, Teresa Greenfield (1994) found that although teachers and parents may have observed some improvement, the results of standardized tests showed no such improvement. And should not be done by other schools thinking that it improves academic achievement( compclass.us).  And because of that there is no effect to year round and the regular calendar why should schools do it. Also in addition, Dr Gary Peltier notes that when the scores of year-round school students ca were compared to those of traditional calendar students, no significant difference was seen(compclass.us). And even though we have the same amount of vacation day to students it seems the we have less for what ever reason maybe the break is not that long as the regular calendar. And adding to that  "Since 1980, 95% of schools trying Year-Round School have returned to a traditional  calendar. Thus, they have changed their calendar twice and had to suffer the disruption, frustration, and wasted time that this entails." (auburn.edu). Also teachers  that say it prevents summer learning loss  it is actually on them because they don't assign enough homework over the break that we would do to keep us up with the methods.
